Main Post Office
Main Post Office

The new building of the Main Post Office opened in 1984 on Shahrisabz Street, formerly Pervomayskaya. Architects — G. Alexandrovich and G. Gutkina; engineers — S. Berkovich, Yu. Kalinin, and O. Balunova; artists — R. Nemirovsky and R. Mukhamedkhanov.

The massive and solid building, erected on an elevation, is neatly fitted between nine-story buildings on both sides and continues the row started by TSUM and the Palace of Aircraft Builders with its layout.

The postal dispatch hall is located in the center of a conditional square, with communication-related organizations placed along its perimeter across four floors. The hall’s ceiling is made of transparent structures, providing soft natural lighting during the day.

The facade is decorated with white sun-protection elements and a large panel with a relief depicting the Solar System. The building has side entrances; on the right, a protruding elevator shaft stands out. On the rear side, facing the Alay Bazaar, there is a national cuisine café.

In 2012–2013, the building underwent reconstruction with changes to its exterior: the facade was clad in white aluсobond and blue glass. However, the main hall remained untouched—its artistic decoration with ceramic figures was preserved.
